Copy Editor for Maritz
Inc., St. Louis, Missouri (a $2 billion, privately held company serving 76 percent of Fortune 500
companies). Dealt directly
with corporate executives, project managers, art directors and
designers. Edited and proofread for correctness of grammar,
punctuation, content, typography and spelling, for consistency
and against layout. Served as the Maritz corporate standards,
grammar, punctuation, style and business-reply-mail resource.
Sole copy editor of corporate communications, including the
Maritz annual report, monthly newsletter and
organization charts.
Accomplishments:
- Provided quality control analysis for corporate
organization chart updates – checking for consistency
across six companies, one subsidiary and 14 divisions, and
detailing more than 300 executive positions. Appointed
primary editorial authority in 1991.
- Earned a $1,000 award for conceptualizing, creating,
editing and overseeing publication of the Maritz Glossary (a
200-page dictionary of Maritz terms).
- Edited the Project Management Manual (a 350-page volume
that provided the guidelines for doing business
at Maritz Performance Improvement Company).
- Conceptualized, documented all specs for and edited the
Maritz Stationery and Graphic Styles Manual.
- Edited and proofread A Centennial History of Maritz.
- Won Creative Commitment Award in 1993, and Peak Performer
Award in 1990 and 1993; nominated for Creative Commitment
Award in 1992, and Creative Contributor of the Year Award
in 1989.

Proofreader/VideoShow
Operator/Typesetter for Maritz. Proofreading: Read in-house,
typeset copy, with emphasis on consistency, spelling, point
size, typeface, leading, line length, kerning and position
against layout. Some editing allowed. VideoShow: Created
presentations on disk using an AT&T PC6300, VideoShow 160
and 180 units, and PictureIt and Lotus Freelance Plus software.
Chosen to create all Maritz corporate (i.e., board of directors,
stockholders) shows. Typesetting: Used Type Processor One
software on an IBM PC.
